Moorefield, W.Va. – Derek Thorne, a resident of Dorcas, West Virginia, has been hired as the Accounting/Fiscal Coordinator at 精东影视 Virginia Community & Technical College. He was born and raised in Dorcas and has recently moved back for this position after working and living in Winchester, Virginia. 鈥淚 moved to Winchester, VA, eight years ago with my wife Emily, along with our dog and three cats,鈥 said Thorne, 鈥淲e are excited to be moving back to our hometown.鈥 Thorne is a graduate of Fairmont State University with a bachelor of applied science in Finance with a minor in Accounting. He also took classes at Eastern during the summers in between working on his B.A.S. degree. Thorne has previously worked for Grant County Bank in Petersburg, WV, as an operations and compliance specialist and at Capon Valley Bank in Gore, VA, as the assistant branch manager. In his free time, he likes traveling with his wife, especially to their favorite destination, Slovenia. Thorne also enjoys cooking, baking, and trying new things. When asked what he has enjoyed about Eastern, he said, 鈥淓veryone has been welcoming; you can tell that they really care about the students and the communities they serve.鈥

精东影视, based in Moorefield, serves six rural counties in West Virginia鈥檚 Potomac Highlands. EWVCTC offers affordable academic programs, including fourteen degree programs (six of which are fully online), twelve certificate programs, and over thirty opportunities to transfer to a four-year college. Through the Workforce Education department, Eastern provides over fifteen training programs that can be in-person, hybrid, or fully online. Additionally, there are Agriculture Innovation trainings that help agricultural workers improve their businesses or allow them to become Farm Fellows and work with mentors to learn how to succeed in the agriculture industry.
